We are lucky here at OPW to have a resident pro photographer so we get to have lovely photographs of all our creations. Photography is Lauren’s thing but Jo has started to learn the art and quickly caught the bug.
The problem is with turning your hobby into a business is that we find that we forget to take pictures of general day to day stuff although we have endeavoured to take pictures of our plants 🌱 as they grow so we thought we'd use our photos of them as so personal to us...
Peak wedding season sees such a high volume of editing that can be quite a strain and a side of photography that people don’t think about. It’s a common misconception that you just point & shoot but there is a lot more that goes into photography that a lot of people don’t see.
Professional equipment is in the thousands to buy, the time & responsibility that goes into photographing a wedding can cause many to suffer anxiety and lose sleep and then the hours that goes into processing the iMages afterwards is totally underestimated, this is often why photographers feel the need to justify the cost of the service and get frustrated
If you are looking for a photographer it’s worth bearing this is mind, you generally get what you pay for. The lower the cost is usually because
1.They may be using entry level equipment or minimal equipment
2. They may not have a portfolio and are doing it cheaper to build this up
3. They may be training and learning the craft.
It might be someone who thinks it’s easy money - just point & shoot without understanding all that’s involved and these are the horror stories
Lauren has been in situations 1-3 and therefore talking from experience. She charged a low price for many years and I’m sure there are many of her customers that were over the moon with their photos and got a bargain but there comes a time when you have to start earning money for all your time & work.
Personally our opinion is wedding photos are your most prized memories and you should do your research and decide what matters most to you.
Lauren had to make the important decision of who to go with for their special day and the wants for her wedding photographer were •local •similar attitude & style to her •around the same money as we charge •good portfolio. It’s worth checking out the average cost of a professional photographer in your area before you do anything else so then you can set your budget and look at the work rather than the price.
Do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, we’d be happy to answer anything you are not sure on.
